RFID tracks consumption in amusement park Jul 25, 2021

Dubai children's entertainment chain Fiafia will open an amusement park where children can play, and then parents will pay for the services and food the children receive during the play. The company uses an RFID solution to provide a cashless payment solution for children and parents, while tracking the time the child spends on the spot, and automatically settle the bill when the child leaves.


All children and parents can get an NFC wristband at the front desk. Visitors can use their wristbands to tap payment terminals at the front desk, cafes, or other mobile devices used by staff to identify any paid activities their children participate in. The solution is provided by Semnox.


Playground

Now, Fiafia has opened two such playgrounds in Dubai, one of which is located in the Ferdous shopping mall. Each playground contains a play area and a cafe, and both provide education and entertainment for children of all ages; it also includes a lounge where parents can wait and children can play freely. Fiafia’s playground is diverse and can provide free games, themed activities, parties and lounges to entertain and educate children while parents are resting.


Fiafia will charge based on the games and drinks the parents choose for their children. Parents can buy packages that include specific times, specific food and beverages, or pay by the hour—about $15 for the first hour and $8 for the second hour. With the Semnox system, parents can track every transaction completed by their children, such as buying food, participating in activities, and so on. According to Vinayaka Kamath, head of Semnox's Middle East and Europe business, Fiafia opened amusement parks in February and March this year and chose to use Semnox's NFC solution to help customers automatically collect payment data as a cashless payment solution.


When children come to this playground, each child and their parents will get a 13.56 MHz NFC wristband ISO 14443 standard. The size and color of the wristbands worn by children and adults are different. The wristband is provided by Semnox. Each wristband is embedded with an NFC chip and has a unique ID code. When parents register their name, phone number and email address, the front desk staff will read the tag ID on their wristband and associate it with the data of the parents and children. Meghashyam Jayaram, Semnox's Middle East sales director, said the data was then stored in the company's software.


Payment mode

Parents can choose their preferred payment mode. One option is to purchase a package, which includes a meal, an activity, and designated play time. Then pay for each service they use on-site at the end of the game. The playground also provides some items that require additional fees, such as face painting. If the child participates in this activity, the staff will read the child’s wristband ID, and the activity fee will be included in the account of the child’s family.


In addition, if children want to buy snacks and drinks, they only need to choose what they want and touch the wristband to the reader at each point of sale. After the reader reads the data, the data will be credited to the parent's account. Parents can also use their own wristbands to achieve the same purpose. If parents wish to restrict any activities, food or drinks of their children, they can provide this information when registering at the front desk. For example, if a child with a milk allergy tries to buy dairy products, the software will capture this data and provide it to on-site staff.


When the child's play is over, the parents will take their child back to the reception area, where all the wristbands will be read and all the IDs will be verified. The playground also has manual door locks to ensure that children leave without being accompanied or follow strangers. Semnox software can display all expenses incurred during the game, and parents can authorize and pay. These wristbands are disposable and will not be recycled after the end of the game, but their personal data will be saved so that they only need to receive a new wristband when they come to the playground again, and then connect the new wristband to their account Connected together.


RFID enhances the play experience

Semnox also provides RFID solutions for other children's entertainment venues in the United Arab Emirates. The technology is also used in various home entertainment venues in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United States, including playgrounds, water parks and restaurants. For example, the Florida Entertainment Center uses RFID to enhance the play experience. In the future, the company plans to deploy real-time positioning application technology at sites that require children's location data for safety purposes.


Semnox designed its own RFID reader hardware together with third-party manufacturers and provided its own cloud software. The reader can transmit device data to the software via Wi-Fi or cable connection. The company's cloud software is integrated with the user's on-site software. Jayaram said that in addition to providing solution services, Semnox can also provide customers with round-the-clock support via phone and e-mail, as well as free software upgrade services every year.


In addition, RFID technology can also be used to analyze data and establish a reward mechanism for loyal customers.


Jayaram said: "As long as the data is still being collected, we will support customers to propose their own solutions." Kamath pointed out that this customized support service model has always been Semnox's core strategy. "We are not only a system supplier, we also provide solutions tailored to customer needs."
